Police brutality

As the title of the article can show, today we will be dealing with police brutality. For years some police have been killing people of colour and black men and women without being threatened by them. They make use of different types of brutality, it can be an assault, battery, torture or even murder. They harass minorities, they arrest people with no justification, intimidate them, and abuse them verbally because they have the power to do it and consider minorities have no rights.

Before writing this article I wanted to make some research about the latest police brutality and I was shocked to see that during the last decade over 80 Black men have been killed by the police. (link of the article: https://newsone.com/playlist/black-men-boy-who-were-killed-by-police/item/25 )

George Floyd was killed by the police on the 25th of May 2020. He was accused of paying with counterfeit money, let us admit it is true, that doesn’t give a reason to threat him as he was threated. Make use of excessive force as he did is wrong no matter the crime he commited. Pressing someones neck with your knee for over 5min for a counterfeit is wrong. Some people say we shouldn’t make a generality and considerer all police people are the same, I don’t know what to think of that because while George Floyd was on the ground begging for help the other police didn’t move, didn’t oppose or even tell his colleague to stop. People have the right to riot and be angry with all what is happening because George Floyd isn’t the only case, minorities are being killed on daily basis. It didn’t start today and it won’t end today. People need to be threated like humans no matter their skin colour or racial background. People should stop telling others not to consider all police are bad but they should tell the police to stop thinking every person of colour is a criminal or a threat to them. People should also stop telling minorities how to react when this kind of things happen, this shouldn’t be minimise in any kind of way, and minorities are not victimizing themselves, they are victims!

That doesn’t only happen it the US but also in France, during the lockdown several young boys were wounded or killed by the police. Each time such a thing happens no one askes why the police is being so brutal, they instead blame the person whom is dead or wounded, presenting them as criminals and searching for things they commited before. I agree some people behave akwardly, some commit crimes and that’s why the call for the police, but the police work is to arrest them so they can be judged later on, not to kill them or maltreat them. Adame Traoré was killed in 2016 in the police station, we was threated and was chocked the same as George Floyd but no one was there to tape what happened. Zyed and Bouna were killed in 2005, they are accused of theft, they were running away from the police and got electrocuted in an EDF plant. People keep commenting and saying if they ran away is that they had something to reproach themselves, I do not agree with that, yes they might have stolen things but that doesn’t give right for the police to chase them until they got to an EDF plant, knowing the risk the police could have let them run, and them search and go and arrest them later on. Théodore Luhaka was brutally arrested and isolated from his friends by the police, he was tortured, brustalised and humiliated in the police car. That aren’t the only cases of police brutality in France, they are much more, but the victims are always presented as criminals so people consider that what happened to them is deserved.

Trump said “when the looting starts, the shooting starts” , that just shows how some stupid and racist people think, because that is justifying the killings that have been happening and those that will still happen. Police is made to protect people and enforce the law not to kill because people are looting, rioting, stealing, they can kill if the person is a threat to their lives, but in many cases the people they kill didn’t represent any threat.

We should all condemn what is happening because the people whom are death aren’t just minorities they are human, they should be threated such as humans. By staying quiet we are being condescending, I’m not asking that we should go to manifest or riot, but will should acknowledge and say that was is happening is wrong and it’s enough, we can’t bare it any longer.

Maxima’s diary pt.8

20th of May was my birthday, I turned 18. It was a nice day I celebrated it with my family and I went out, I would have liked to see my best friends but that wasn’t possible. I expected to feel a difference getting to adulthood but that wasn’t the case 🤣

Lemme show you guys how peng I was 😎

The lockdown is over since 2 weeks, we can’t really evaluate if the number of cases has increased or not because the incubation period of the virus is about 8 days, so we may get an idea by the end of the week. Several clusters have been detected all across France, the sanitary services work to get to know with whom the people have been in contact so they can isolate them and avoid getting more people contaminated.

During this period the number of violence commited by the police has increased in France, I can understand that some people might behave awkwardly but that isn’t a reason to brutalise them has some police people do. People should be treated equally no matter they ethnicity, social status, gender.

stay safe, and see you next week

    🥳 happy birthday 🎉

On a serious note, it’s important to bring up the police violence. I have been following what’s been happening in the US, same story but worse. We can just sweep these issues under the rug!

Maxima’s diary pt.7

Finally the lockdown is over but that doesn’t mean the virus also, so we still need to be careful in order to protect ourselves but also those around us and that includes wearing a mask, washing our hands frequently and respect social distancing.

I’ve always been a home lover so I wasn’t bordered about staying home. I occupied myself by watching movies and series, reading, listening to and doing music, doing tiktok’s 🤣, my homework and I spent a lot of time on Twitter. Twitter is a great platform to express and also inform yourselves (when you follow appropriate media’s), I let lots of things there. People made me laugh, but I was also chocked by others carelessness and stupidity. During the lockdown they were lots of debate to which I contributed. I watched a documentary on Netflix, called living undocumented, they filmed real undocumented families, their stories were very sad, some were deported, I recommend it to you guys because it shows the reality and we get to know how they feel, because they are confronted to injustice, discrimination and racism.
I think the most difficult thing during the confinement is to feel people around you meanwhile you want to be on our own, on some days I was like :

I need to tell all of you next week Wednesday is my birthday and I will turn 18. So I started warming up to be pretty on that day and this is the result :

Stay safe homies 💕

Maxima’s diary pt.6

At the beginning of the confinement I started a booked called La vie devant soi, written by Romain Gary. I have now finished it, and that will be the subject of this article. The story is very earnest it deals with human relationship. It’s the story of a young boy (Mohammed) who’s mum was a hustler, she let him with an ex hustler whom brought him up. Throughout the story we see the boy’s relationship with society, he doesn’t go to school and live’s with the lady whom is bringing up other hustlers children. He spends most of his time out, as the lady is getting old and loosing her mine. He uses a very rough language, and uses familiar words, that makes the story look more real, I really felt him and got attached as I was reading. He is conscious the lady is going to die, he sees her deteriorating, she starts having hallucination about the times when she was still young and hustling in the street. She is also traumatized because she was deported by the nazis, she survived the holocaust before coming to France. It is a book I would recommend, because the young boy is searching for his roots, who he is, why his parents abandonned him.

Now that I’ve finished that book, I’m going to read Les Gones de Chaaba of Azouz Begag, it seems to be a great story too. To make time pass quickly I also make research through the internet and in books to enrich my culture (I don’t only watch movies lol).

See you guys next week, hoping the confinement will be over for real.

Take care of yourselves and your families.

Movies

During the past few days, I’ve mostly been watching movies that my friend proposed to me. I’ve watched big classic such as Scarface, Le parrain, Forrest Gump, The Green Mile, 12 Angry Men, Pulp Fiction, The Ghost Writer, Usual Suspects and many others. That occupies me a lot, and makes time pass quickly but I’ve not been working since I’ve been watching movies.

The movies I really loved were the Devil’s advocate, Rosemary’s baby and Jackie Brown I found those 3 really interesting, they actors really played their roles very well, and the scenarios were great.

Maxima’s diary pt.3

My previous articles dealt with the different aspects of confinement. This new article will dwell with the effects of living with confinement. After 44 days of confinement, our contacts with others have been limited, we can’t visit our families, go out with friends or even go out for fun. Some people find it difficult because they feel bored, isolated and lonely.

People are confronted to their fears in view of the actual context, they are scared to be contaminated, to contaminate their loved ones, to see a family member die. Frontline workers whom are directly confronted to the virus, need psychological assistance because it is quit difficult to encounter that type of situation, seing such a number of people suffering, dying and feeling powerless because you can’t save everyone.

I read about a boy in an article who was suffering from a mental illness, he lived with his mother and sisters and with the confinement he couldn’t receive the medical and social assistance he needed so his crisis got even worse and he killed his mom. That happened in Epinay-Sous-Sénart, and it is an example of the kind of psychological effect the confinement has on people their lifes.

Some feel depressed, anxious or get irritated very easily and living in family becomes difficult and respecting everyones private sphere isn’t easy. However confinement shouldn’t be perceived as a punishment, we need to try and planify our days, help the needy people around us, and for those who encounter difficulties, they should be able to get the assistance they need.

Maxima’s diary pt.2

We’ve now been quarantined for 3 weeks and everyone is getting used to the situation. People are reaching daily schedules to occupy themselves so the number of fines concerning the confinement rules are reducing. Meanwhile we are still facing a major issue which is fake news. Some people find pleasure in misinforming other, people mostly spread fake news on twitter and WhatsApp. During this crisis on social media several people proclame themselves doctors, scientist of analyst. Saying the corona virus was created in a laboratory to eradicate the wick part of the population. Others claiming they have special concoctions to cure the virus, and out of fear and desperation some people follow. We mostly thing fake news only comes from social media while even politicians contribute in distorting individuals, like Eric Zemmour who succeeded in making a link between the virus and Muslims saying in suburbs Africans are responsible of the virus spread. Trump is also a great example, he keeps misleading people by spreading fake information during the daily press conference, calling the virus the Chinese virus, he isn’t informed but pretends to be. We are now in a time where we are confronted to a flow of information we should be smart and thoughtful and learn how to dissociate what is true from what is false.

Really valid point and I’m glad you brought this us. As an American, it’s truly painful to see news about the president and the inaction in most states. It’s truly terrifying to me.

Maxima’s diary

We’ve been quarantine for now 9 days, because of the corona crisis. People react differently through the situation, some respect the rules and stay at home, others behave irresponsibly and keep going out for no good reason. In my opinion people who don’t respect the confinement haven’t yet realize how serious the situation is, because no reasonable person will keep going out wandering in the street during such a time. Staying home is a sacrifice will should all do, for our health, for our families and especially for the doctors and nurses, they already have a lot of cases which are difficult to handle we shouldn’t be another load for the health care system. During this period I keep myself occupied, I study, read books ( I’m now reading La vie devant soi of Romain Gary), I watch my series and movies, I listen to music. I also do my makeup and take pictures, if I get a good camera I will soon launch a YouTube channel. The confinement isn’t really a big issue for me because I am used to staying at home but I can understand it isn’t everyone’s case. I couldn’t stay without posting a picture 🤣

bisous bisous la famille
